Cheap green fees mean it may not be as well-maintained or well-appointed as some of its more illustrious neighbours, but this remains is a hugely enjoyable course for those who don't insist on 5 star facilities.
In the hills behind Pattaya surrounded by pineapple and palm plantations lies the popular Pattaya Country Club, conveniently located just off the main Pattaya-Rayong motorway. Its interesting layout, characterised by split fairways and cleverly located bunkers, would be one of the most enjoyable in Thailand if the course maintenance was up to scratch. It's a shame as there are some great holes, particularly the last three which are known locally as Amen Corner. Before that point the big fairways and an absence of water means you can score well, but once you hit the medium length downhill par-3 16th things can swiftly go south. Say a prayer as your ball crosses the water and plummets towards a tricky undulating green where some devilish pin positions can make for some high scores.
Like the course, the facilities on offer in the small clubhouse aren't on a par with those we've come to expect in Thailand, with basic locker rooms and showers. On the other hand, the restaurant serves tasty fare and the friendly staff go out of their way to ensure that you have a pleasant, if not 5 star, experience. Despite the state of the course and the facilities, this course still has much to recommend it given that it is much cheaper than the majority of other courses in the region, especially if you can take advantage of even better rates available for special days, late tee-offs and certain credit cards. There's even a discount for over 50s.
