Below par course maintenance takes the shine off some good holes and the 5-star facilities.
With 27 holes spread out over 1000 acres of lush exotic countryside to go with excellent practice areas and a huge sports complex, Pattana Golf Resort & Sports Club can make a reasonable claim to have some of the best facilities in Pattaya. It would certainly look that way as you arrive at the impressive 5-star clubhouse and stock up at the excellent pro shop and warm up on the putting green. Sadly, however, this experience isn't matched on the course itself.
The three separate nines (somewhat idiosyncratically named Andrea, Brookie and Calypso) are replete with enough palm trees, water hazards and undulating fairways to test your skills, but are not in a good enough condition to make it a fair test. From tee boxes that occasinally ressemble rough, perfect tee shots can end up on bare patches, and unraked bunkers add an unnecessary challenge if you find sand. While there are some good holes, for example the long par-5 B9 which requires a blind shot to a green that is well protected by sand, the conditions really do take the shine off things.
We'd almost recommend just going for the clubhouse experience, but even there the staff often don't speak english and can be standoffish, and prices are reflective of a general sense that Pattana Golf Resort & Sports Club is more a rich person's playground than anything else. If you happen to be said rich person, go for it - you'll be happy to know that there is a helipad.
