A memorably tricky course in tip top condition, Alpine Golf Club is amongst the best courses in the north of Thailand. What was once known as Chiang Mai Lumphun Golf Club has been transformed into the newly redesigned Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai, one of the top venues in the area.
How to play Alpine Golf Club?
Set in a forested valley that allows for great views of the local mountains, this Ron Garl-designed course lives up to the reputation of its illustrious designer; the use of new grasses means good definition between fairways and rough, fringe and green, and the excellent condition of the course is testament to a healthy budget set aside for maintenance. From the black tees the course plays particularly long at 7,451 yards, providing a serious challenge that can be softened somewhat from the less daunting whites. Regardless of where you tee off from, there are plenty of holes to test your skills. Good distance from the tee is required to stand a chance of par at the epic 652 yard par-5 4th or the 444 yard par-4 5th with its well guarded green, and a high level of accuracy is the order of the day if you want to find the island green at the par-3 15th. At the 7th, a stream runs alongside and across the whole length of the fairway. The most adventurous can attempt to carry the water and reach the green in two, but if that's your plan it's probably a good idea to have a quick pray at the spirit house located at the tee.
As yet, the caddies' knowledge of the new layout isn't as extensive as you would ideally wish, so playing to your handicap here should be regarded as something of an achievement. The well-run clubhouse, an extension of the 4 star 78-room hotel, boasts spacious locker rooms and excellent restaurants, and there are excellent practice facilities that we suggest you take advantage of! Overall, Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai has justifiably earned its reputation as one of the top courses in the north of Thailand.
