A stunning course that is tough to tame. Highly recommended for the above average golfer.
From the same designers as the fabulous Red Mountain course in Phuket comes the Riverdale Golf Club, destined to be an essential fixture for years to come. Teeing off down the gentle slope of the first hole, we thought we were in for an easy ride of it; trudging back into the well appointed clubhouse 4 hours later, our scorecard was a mess of dropped shots.
Rolling fairways bordered by reed-lined lakes give way to raised greens protected by challenging bunkers on this immaculate links course. If you can make the green, putting can be treacherous with subtle breaks and deceptive slopes. "Rice Mill Corner" plays like the evil twin of the famous "Amen Corner" at Augusta with two tricky par-4s, one a dog-leg and the other long and uphill sandwiching a unique par 3 with a choice of greens. You can either go for the shorter island green or the further postage stamp where pot bunkers await you. Ideally have some fun and hit one ball at each.
Being a newly-opened course, many of the trees are yet to reach maturity so the course will tighten over time. Now might be your best chance to shoot a decent score, although this is a challenge that only those with handicap below around 18 should attempt.
