The City of Istanbul as has been decribed many times as where "East meets West" with the Western half of the City lying in Europe and the Eastern Part lying in Asia, with the Bosphorus straight lying in between. Take time to admire the impressive skyline from the seven hills of the Old City to the numerous mosques with their distinctive domes and minarets. Go to Galata and stroll along the cobblestones, knowing that this is where various Imperial powers have trodden and take in this laid back part of town, with its wonderful array of churches, mosques and shops. Certainly no Istanbul holiday would be complete without a visit to one of the old Hamams (Turkish baths) giving you the opportunity to step back in time and admire your surroundings, or visit the bazaar district for a taste of shopping and an opportunity to practice your "bartering skills".
But do not be fooled, Istanbul has another side to it, an emerging title as being a “one of the Hippest Cities in the World” with happening restaurants, bars and clubs. You will have an opportunity to listen to some world class performances at the Istanbul Music Festival which is held in June and July and this has been increasing in popularity for many years. There has also been an increase in the number of new art galleries so on your Istanbul holiday you can expect to mix not only East and West, but Old and New.
