Three nines of classic parkland gold and one nine which is an extreme challenge. Slow greens make approach shots easier. Boasting two 18 hole championship courses (a new nine, Lakeside, was added in 2006), Windsor Park & Golf Club is a longstanding favourite of Japanese and Korean Golfers. The original three nines (Lagoon, Palm and Garden) are fairly similar, comprising frequent dog-legs, contoured fairways and large, well manicured greens which are kept slow to speed up play (with the added bonus that it is easier to keep long irons on the green). The Lagoon / Palm combination is classic parkland golf, colouful plants and trees providing a delightful backdrop to some tough holes where driving straight is the only way to avoid substantial bunkers or a menacing water hazard. The third hole of the Palm course probably has the most extensive collection of bunkers you will ever encounter, so it's probably a good idea to practice your bunker shots on the driving range before your round. Even tougher is the new nine, which is set around a massive man-made lake and features greens that are faster and more contoured. The standout hole here is the par 5 3rd, which has water down the entire left side and out-of-bounds on the right. The long, narrow green sits at a strange angle to the fairway and is protected by water making any approach shot a nervy one. If you fancy this extreme challenge, take our advice and request an experienced caddy, as some of the newer ones are no help at all with reading putts. A slight bit of wear and tear in the locker rooms and fairly average course upkeep are the only real downsides to what is a deservedly popular course. Like the sound of this course?
