Short but tricky, this course has a good natural feel where the choice of tees makes a huge difference to the challenge you face. Conveniently located close to the city centre, Summit Windmill Golf Club is another of Nick Faldo's innovative creations and home to a wide array of flora and fauna which make it particularly picturesque. It makes up for its lack of length by proving a true test of every golfer, its contoured fairways, elevated greens and plentiful water hazards keeping you on your toes, particularly on the very long (624 yards) 1st and the exciting 18th. The par-3s are excellent, especially the 12th with its island green, and there are plenty of opportunities to take risks in search of those elusive birdies - the 9th is probably the standout hole, where you have to commit to a tee shot over the water than runs along the entire left side of the fairway. If you play it too safe you'll end up in sand, but the perfect tee shot is rewarded with a straightforward mid-iron to the green. At Summit Windmill Golf Club it's crucial to pick the right tees for your level - from the black tees the island tees and awkward angles can make it a long day, especially with so many bunkers in front of greens designed to trap those who leave themselves too much to do with their second shot. It's best to avoid playing in rainy season as the course can flood due to inadequate draining, a problem which doesn't look like being rectified given the course is open constantly as it offer the option of night golf. Further, the clubhouse, which seems so opulent from outside, seems to be in an almost constant state of renovation and the prevalence of gambling big shots taking ages over every shot can occasionally lead to frustration. However, if you can play during the week and at the right time of year, this course has much to recommend it. Like the sound of this course?
