Whilst still popular, it's not what it used to be and the slow pace of play can be frustrating. Having hosted of the 1992 Johnnie Walker Classic and the 1994 Thailand Open, Pinehurst Golf & Country Club was once considered a must-play course but thanks to the development of a raft of top quality courses in the area it has found itself slipping down the pecking order somewhat, without adjusting its green fees accordingly. However, its convenient location and wide fairways twinned with flat greens mean it continues to be an attractive prospect for many, especially high handicappers looking for a confidence boosting score. They should stick to the relatively straightforward North Lake and South Greenfield nines, while those in search of more of a challenge should take on the strangely named West Forest course (if there are forests, they are very well hidden) which is more sculptured and has more in the way of water hazards. A couple of interesting features: at the 8th hole on West Forest, you hit from a two tier tee towards one of the largest putting surfaces in Asia, which is almost entirely surrounded by water. You can also play at night, with the unique opportunity to rent Rolls Royce branded VIP golf carts. With all this making the course very popular with locals and Asian expats, you can find going quite slow, with 6 hour rounds a common complaint. Like the sound of this course?
