Some memorable holes and a good year-round option, but slightly overpriced and probably one for those who don't want to travel too far from the city. Unusually comprising 4 different nines (Lake, Wood, Rock and a seemingly unnamed, but superior, new addition), you can pick and choose the challenges at Lakewood Country Club. It feels able, thanks to its convenient location, to charge green fees slightly above average for the area, but those of us traveling halfway around the world to play golf will probably find it overpriced given that such convenience is less at a premium. Having said that, an enjoyable golfing experience is to be had and some of the par-3s rival any of the best holes in the Bangkok area. The fairways are fairly spongy, which provides good lies but allows for virtually no roll; combined with a wind that seems to blow towards you on all the longest holes, the course ends up playing longer than the yardage suggests. Excellent drainage makes this course playable all year round, although the rough becomes particularly thick when wet so getting back onto the fairway, rather than miracle shots to the green, become the order of the day. Whilst relatively flat, the course is surrounded by some beautiful landscaping and flora, and the overall experience is greatly enhanced by experienced caddies, whose reading of the greens and sunny demeanor make them head and shoulders above those typically found elsewhere.
