Make sure you have plenty of balls (or swimming gear) if you fancy the challenge of the toughest course in Bangkok. Designed to be the most challenging golf course in Bangkok, Mssrs Schmidt and Curley have not failed in that respect. Nearly impossible from the back tees, even if you start further forward you�d better be pretty accomplished or having a good day to come close to your handicap. Many holes at Best Ocean Golf Club are characterised by tight fairways with water on both sides, so if you are prone to hooks and slices you might find yourself having a long day; even if you can hit it straight, the sea breeze can end up costing you shots, although it is welcome when it is very hot. If you end up shunning the driver in favour of a more conservative approach off the tee, the greens are often elevated and protected on 3 sides by bunkers so don't expect to see your second shot trickle onto the edge. The tonic to all this is the fact that you might well end up having the course to yourself on a weekday, so you don't have to worry about holding up play whilst you're hitting your third, or maybe even fifth shot from the tee; and make sure you save a ball or two for the spectacular par-3 17th for a tee shot that has to negotiate both water and substantial bunkers to make the green. In sum, if you have a low handicap or simply fancy a challenge this is a course to play at least once on your Thailand golf holiday. The caddies can be a bit hit or miss on their judgement of line on the greens, but then again if you are taking this course seriously you should probably be reading your own putts.
