This mature parklands course is a refreshing change from the artificial modern links usually found in the area.
Originally built in 1958 but fully updated in the late 80s, Bangpra Golf Club spearheaded the explosion of golf tourism in the Pattaya area and thanks to good upkeep remains able to compete with some of the impressive new courses which don't have the benefit of the mature trees that stand as a testament to the course's longevity.
The hilly parklands of Sri Racha provide an attractive site for a course which makes up for its lack of complexity by being thoroughly enjoyable to play. The front nine is the best, following the natural inclines of the hills and throwing enough sand and water in your way to keep you on your toes and culminating in an epic 622 yard par-5 that is thankfully downhill all the way.
While the back nine doesn't quite live up the expectations fostered by the front nine, it does feature a few forced water carries, notably on the standout hole, a par-3 that makes an unsubstantiated (and no doubt out of date) claim to being amongst the best 100 holes in the world. Regardless of the veracity or otherwise of this claim, with a green protected by a lake and a host of imposing trees it certainly makes for an attractive challenge.
Back in the luxurious clubhouse you can take a dip in a Japanese style bath before a meal in the restaurant which specialises in Japanese cuisine and reflect on what no doubt will have been an enjoyably varied round on this popular parkland course. One thing to bear in mind is that the popularity of the course makes a weekday round a much better option unless you are happy to put up with 5 hour rounds.
