Bangi Golf Resort

An unpretentious and reasonably priced course that's perfect for beginners; more experienced players will enjoy the plethora of birdie opportunities.

A pleasant and popular parkland course a short drive south of Kuala Lumpur, Bangi Golf Resort features three nines (Kajang, Putrjaya and Bangi) which you can mix and match to make up your round. With a choice of five tee boxes, this is a challenge that you can easily tailor to your ability. This isn't a championship course, but what it is is the perfect place to have a fun round of golf for those who are just learning the game.

Given it plays fairly short at an average of 6782 yards, it's also somewhere more experienced golfers can get a few birdies - the front nine features three par-5s that are all reachable in two on the back of a good drive. Doing so on the first of them involves cutting the corner of a 90 degree dog-leg on your drive. With a massive hit, you can find yourself within 150 yards of the green. This massive reward makes it almost impossible to resist the temptation to have a go, even though only the longest hitters stand a chance of making it.

The par-4 13th offers up an equally enticing challenge. With the green only 280 yards away, the rare (but miniscule) chance of a hole in one on a par four will inevitably lead you to sending a couple of balls into the drink in a somewhat vain stab at glory. Take our advice and play left to the fairway and leave yourself a fairly straightforward short iron to the green.

For what is essentially a cheap and cheerful course (the green fees are much lower than the up-market courses in the area), it's impressive that the course in in such good condition. The fairways, the odd drainage issue aside, are in generally great shape and the well contoured greens give consistent roll.

In short, this is a course without pretension. You'll be welcomed with open arms no matter what your handicap, and probably walk away with a score that makes your heart sing, even though you know that it's not truly representative of what you would score on a championship course. If you're fairly new to golf, or have beginners in your group, this is a great choice.
